Pork has never tasted this good: with a helping of raspberry jam and poached Autumn fruits, it's become one of my favourite dishes for Fall.

Ginger lends a warm and slightly spicy flavour to the broth that goes really well with sweet and juicy pork scotch fillets, my favourite cut for braising.

While this is not a traditional bright orangy red sweet and sour sauce and the pork is not deep fried, it's a quick and completely additive free alternative that tastes great and is simple enough to make even for the most novice cooks.

Crisp flaky filo pastry layered with sticky date pork and nut mixture all smothered in a mandarin-peel infused sugar syrup for that extra zing.

I've always wondered how restaurants prepare pork belly so quickly from the moment it's ordered. Now you don't have to.

Pork scotch fillet steaks are a great alternative to a regular Sunday night's roasts. The meat is succulent and soft because the it is braised (cooked in stock) gently and full of beautiful flavours from the exotic spice mix. Best of all, it takes care of itself.

Everyone loves good Chinese, myself included, and san choy bow is one of my all-time favourite starters. Served in tiny lettuce ‘cups’, the intermingling flavours of the meat, exotic mushrooms and oyster sauce are so delectable I can never stop at just one.

There is no better way to explore a culture and get to know the people than through sharing a meal at their table. The following recipe is my interpretation of what Spanish food is quintessentially about: seafood, cured pork sausages, olives and smoky peppers.

Spaghetti is one of those meals that even the most hesitant cooks can master as their speciality. So, when it comes to making the carbonara, it is a pretty simple recipe that takes only minutes to cook - a perfect midweek meal. The recipe does not overcater either and the dish feels light yet so deliciously creamy.

Combining the slight saltiness of the pork with the sweet flavour of the cooked-down beer and leeks makes for a tasty meal and a quick and hassle-free alternative to beer-basted roasts.

This delicious and easy to prepare roast can be enjoyed warm on Christmas Day, while leftovers make a great cold cut to be served for supper or throughout Boxing Day. Indeed, the stuffing, marjoram crackling and roasted onion gravy bring a festive feel to the dish.

These are great for entertaining – on their own or as an accompaniament to dips such as spicy tomato or baba ganoush. They take no time to make, but will disappear just as quickly so make at least a couple of batches. And kids love them too! Makes 16 Prosciutto, basil and parmesan puff… [Read more…]

Spicy, smokey and a breeze to make. We’ve come across many a styles of this chorizo and potato dish in our culinary adventures across the Sydney tapas scene, and now we have a favourite recipe to make at home, too. It’s great as a side dish at barbecues, as an alternative to the supermarket bought potato… [Read more…]

Gone are the days when we used to gorge on these delicious bite-sized pieces of pork belly at the BBC (Bavarian Beer Cafe), but the cravings come back from time to time, and this recipe never fails to satisfy the taste buds. The meat is tender and juicy while the cracking is just as it… [Read more…]

I have to admit these are the best home-made ribs I’ve ever tasted and I have tried a few different combos in my time. They are sticky, crunchy, beautifully sweet and juicy all at the same time - the meat would fall off the bone if it wasn’t for the sticky sauce with just the right balance of exotic spice keeping it in place. Fingerlicking good!… [Read more…]

This is one of my favourite childhood meals: juicy meatballs, smothered in sticky creamy horseradish and dill sauce (great for fish also) served with a generous helping of buckwheat. Most Australians run into buckwheat used in the form of flour in pancakes and breads. But there are many advantages of using whole buckwheat as a base… [Read more…]

Crispy, wholesome and delicious – not exactly the kind of words that come to mind when you think of a regular sausage roll, are they? No, but this is not a regular sausage roll recipe; for the kind of roll you’d find at your local 7-eleven sweating away for hours in a cellophane bag. No, this is… [Read more…]

When it came to making dinner on Tuesday night, I looked in the fridge to see what ingredients I had on hand. There on the bottom shelf I spotted a nice, ripe pineapple. I knew I had to make one of my Chinese favourites: sweet and sour pork. So I got to work. Traditionally, the recipe calls for tinned… [Read more…]

You are probably wondering 2 things: what is Huevos Rancheros and why am I talking about Sunday’s breakfast on a Sunday night? From my limited knowledge of Spanish, I know that huevos means eggs and rancheros seems to resemble the English word ranch, so it leads me to believe that: huevos rancheros = ranch-style eggs. A quick internet search… [Read more…]

A recent visit to the local pub for a meal got me thinking if spending $16 on a schnitzel, chips and salad was really good value for money? Since I like the odd challenge, I decided to find out whether it’s possible to prepare the same meal but cheaper and healthier at home. Apart from the obvious unknown of what goes into the pub meal, there is… [Read more…]

I've always been a fan of Asian dumplings. These bite-sized morsels are complex in flavour and textures, but surprisingly easy to make. They can be devoured on their own with a dip in soy sauce and sliced ginger, or my favourite, plunged into steaming noodle soup.

If you love your spaghetti and meatballs, but hate washing up all the pots and pans afterwards, this meal is for you. All you need to cook this 1 pot wonder is a saucepan!

I ♥ mince. It’s easy to use and versatile in terms of the shapes and flavours it can take on. A slab of pork mince can be transformed into gingery stuffing for Asian dumplings just as well as it can be used in Western cuisine to make meatballs. Considering I was having both grown-ups and kids… [Read more…]

This basic risotto recipe is quick and flavoursome. The best thing is that you can mix and match the additional ingredients to suit your mood or the seasons. To stir in use peas, corn, asparagus, beetroot, mushrooms or leftover barbecue chicken. To top off use smoked or seared salmon, tuna steak, fried salami, smoked trout or mackarel.… [Read more…]
